HIFL22: Unilag Marines And Delsu Titans Secure Big Wins On Opening Day Of Qualifiers

By Samuel Bamisebi The journey to the group stage of the Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) 2022 season got of to a big start with wins for University of Lagos, Delta State University Bayero University Kano, University of Ilorin amongst others. In the Sahel North I group, BUK Stallions defeated UNIJOS Highlanders 1-0 while KASU Crocs defeated YUSMUK Ravens 2-0. Sahel North II group saw IBBU Ranchers and first champions of the HIFL, UAM Tillers play out a goalless draw while UNILORIN Warriors defeated KSU Steelers 2-1. In the Coastal Southwest group A, LASU Blazers and UI Pioneers played out a 1-1 draw to open the group, OOU Gatekeepers defeated FUOYE Cascades 2-1 the Lagos State University (LASU Blazers) defeated LEAD CITY Gladiators 2-1 in the Lagos team’s second fixture of the day. The Coastal Southwest group B had the UNILAG Marines run past ABUAD Stars 3-1 in the opening group fixture and then the Marines walked over FUTA Tigers who failed to show up for their first game while UNIOSUN Lakers lost to the EKSU Mountaineers 0-1. The Coastal South South group A saw UNIPORT play a 1-1 draw with IAU Minders while the group B saw the biggest win of day one with DELSU Titans humiliating FUPRE 7-2 to wrap up day one.
