Nigerian University students participate in the West African University Games (WAUG). This is normally held at four-year interval. The last edition was held at the University of Port-Harcourt, Port-Harcourt, Nigeria in November 2018.
The competition was first held in 1965 in Ibadan, Nigeria, and has been held on a roughly once ever four to six years since 1989.
