The NUGA Journal of Scientific Studies (NJSS) is a peer-reviewed, scholarly publication of the Nigerian Universities Games Association dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of critical issues in sport, health, physical activity, exercise science, physical education, and related interdisciplinary fields. With a strong emphasis on empirical research and evidence-based innovations, the journal provides high-quality scientific information relevant to Nigeria, Africa, and the global community. It aims to serve as a vital resource for researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, sports organizations, governments, and international bodies committed to improving human well-being, educational development, and societal progress through scientific inquiry.
For the first time, the Journal is formally indexed in major academic databases and has been assigned International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) for both print and online versions. This edition is made of mostly peer reviewed articles emanating from the 2025 NUGA Scientific Forum/Conference held on 10th November 2025 during the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Games at the University of Jos, Nigeria. The Journal is published biannually (twice a year) with a clear commitment to achieving and maintaining high-impact metrics. The Journal upholds rigorous international publishing standards, including double-blind peer review, strict adherence to research ethics (COPE guidelines), plagiarism checks, data transparency, and open-access options where feasible. These measures ensure the publication of only original, methodologically sound, and impactful articles that meet global best practices in scientific publishing.
The Journal welcomes high-quality empirical studies as its primary focus, while also considering strong theoretical and review papers that address contemporary challenges in health, physical activity, sports management, education, and allied social sciences. Manuscripts may be submitted electronically throughout the year. The journal operates an efficient review process, with authors typically receiving an initial decision within one month of submission. Detailed author guidelines, including formatting, referencing style (APA), and ethical requirements, are available on the journal website.
The maiden edition features twenty-two well-researched, rigorously peer-reviewed articles organized under key sub-themes: physical activity, exercise, fitness and sports management; knowledge, attitudes and practices on diseases and prevention; nutrition and family health; and health behaviours among adolescents and adults.
