8 Days to Go: 12th FASU Games Torch Relay Continues Across Egypt
With eight days to go until the 12th All Africa University Games, the Games torch is continuing its journey across Egypt, bringing together university communities, student athletes and national stakeholders ahead of the continental sporting event in Cairo.
The torch relay officially began at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the New Administrative Capital, where high ranking representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Youth and Sports gathered to receive the Games torch. The moment highlighted inter ministerial collaboration and Egypt's commitment to hosting the 12th FASU Games.
The relay continued to the Egyptian E Learning University, marking the torch's first university stop and highlighting the role of modern education and national diversity in the celebration. From there, the flame moved to Cairo University, one of Africa's prominent and historic universities, where students welcomed the torch with performances and celebrations centred on friendship and unity.
Speaking during the occasion at Cairo University, its President, Dr Mohamed Sami Abdel Sattar, expressed his honour at joining the torch relay and described the Games as a major tournament reflecting the history and status of Egypt. Cairo University will also be among the institutions connected to the Games, which are expected to bring together more than 2,000 student athletes from 17 African nations across 81 universities and educational institutions.
The torch then travelled to the British University in Egypt, where students and university leaders welcomed it as a symbol of innovation and athletic spirit. At Badr University in Cairo, the relay continued with a celebration focused on excellence, collaboration and fair play, before reaching The American University in Cairo, where the university community came together to celebrate diversity, leadership and the shared values of African university sport.
Central to the relay are the official torchbearers, made up of student athletes and young leaders carrying the flame across the participating locations. Their role represents the spirit of unity, resilience and athletic excellence at the heart of the Games, while connecting young people across the African university sports movement.
The torch relay now forms part of the final countdown to Cairo 2026, with the Games set to bring together student athletes and university communities from across the continent. As the flame continues its journey, it carries a message of friendship, collaboration and continental unity ahead of the opening of the 12th FASU Games in eight days.
