NUGA Council to Convene at UNICAL for Key Discussions on University Sports
The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) is set to convene its upcoming Council Meeting at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Calabar, Cross River State, from 21 to 22 October 2026. The meeting will bring together Chairmen and Directors of Sports from member institutions to deliberate on key issues affecting university sports and strengthen coordination across the association.
The meeting, initially scheduled for an earlier date, was rescheduled following a request by the University of Calabar management to allow adequate logistical preparations. According to a notice issued by the Office of the Acting Secretary General, Mr Yunusa Bazza, members are expected to arrive on Tuesday, 20 October, with the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 21 October, and Thursday, 22 October. Departure is slated for Friday, 23 October 2026.
The Council Meeting provides an opportunity for stakeholders to review NUGA's activities and discuss priorities for the development of university sports in Nigeria. Key areas of focus are expected to include preparations for upcoming NUGA competitions, accreditation processes, championship organisation, institutional participation and the strengthening of sports administration across member universities.
As NUGA continues to expand opportunities for student athletes through inter university competitions and other sporting initiatives, the meeting will also provide a platform for institutional representatives to share experiences, address operational challenges and consider strategies for improving participation, athlete development and the overall organisation of university sports.
The gathering at UNICAL reinforces the importance of collaboration among member institutions in advancing NUGA's objectives and sustaining the growth of university sports. It is expected to support continued coordination and planning as the association prepares for its forthcoming sporting activities.
