At the start of every year, the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) commences the search for ambassadors to represent the country at the annual FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy. The FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) stands as a pivotal event for FISU and students engaged in university sports within their nations. Conducted every year, this gathering unites over 100 student leaders hailing from more than 90 countries. Facilitated in an online format, the program ensures global participation, incorporating webinars, workshops, collaborative efforts, and group projects. Chidiebere Ezeani, NUGA's Acting Secretary General, expresses, “The FVLA is a transformative opportunity for students seeking involvement in university sports. It provides access to sports best practices and fosters interaction with students worldwide. Additionally, it serves as a gateway to other occasions like the FISU World Forum or the coveted FISU Springboard program, as our former student ambassador discovered. Upon completion of the FVLA program, graduates assume the role of FISU student ambassadors, actively contributing to university sports programs in their home country. These ambassadors can serve a two-year term, contingent on their level of engagement in representing their country on the international university sports stage. Former ambassador (2020-2023), Mr. Adebayo Olatunde, offers advice to prospective students, stating, “The FVLA presents a unique opportunity for students to have their voices heard and be part of the development of university sports in their respective countries. There are numerous opportunities and valuable relationships to be forged as an ambassador, which provides a chance to make a positive impact in sports.” Students interested in representing NUGA can use or reach out on social media @nuganigeria_official In 2024, the criteria for becoming a FISU student ambassador for Nigeria include and are not limited to - I am currently enrolled at a NUGA-member university. - Possess a reliable internet connection. - I am eager to actively contribute and be a part of designing a project for implementation in Nigeria. - Be ready to make new friends from across the globe!
