University sports activities continued across Nigerian campuses in October 2026, with student unions, sports directorates and student sports organisations announcing new competitions, expanding digital sports coverage, promoting athletics and creating opportunities for student participation, talent discovery and campus engagement.

The Students' Sports Federation of Nigeria (SSFON) announced the forthcoming Southern Campus Clash Cup, a regional tertiary institutions sports tournament open to universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, colleges of health and private institutions across the South-West, South-South and South-East. The competition will feature football, basketball, table tennis and athletics, bringing together 24 schools in pursuit of one championship title. SSFON also issued a call for volunteers across media and publicity, photography and videography, medical and welfare, and statistics and results, encouraging interested individuals to contribute to the tournament's organisation.

At the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), the Office of the SUG Director of Sports announced the return of its sports programming for the 2026/2027 session. Registration is underway for the UNIPORT Champions League 3.0 and Conference League 3.0, with the competitions set to provide opportunities for student football teams to compete. The office also introduced UNIPORT Sports Wave, a sports news platform designed to keep the university community updated on scores, developments and sporting activities.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), through the Office of the Director of Sports, announced the maiden edition of the NANS National Football League (NNFL), tagged the Renewed Hope Cup 2026. The initiative aims to bring student football teams together from campuses across Nigeria, providing a platform for talent discovery, sportsmanship, peace and unity. At the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), the Students' Union Government announced the return of the FUOYE Champions League 2.0 for the 2026/2027 academic session. The competition will feature 36 teams across the university's three campuses in Ido, Ikole and Oye, with teams competing for the ultimate title. The initiative aims to bring the campus community together through football, building anticipation for another contest for university supremacy.

At Federal University Otuoke (FUO), the Students' Union Government announced the 2026/2027 VC/SUG Cup and Olympic Games, featuring a broad programme of sporting and recreational activities. Registration opened on 10 October and is scheduled to close on 15 November 2026, with draws planned for 15 November and the official competition kick-off set for 17 November. At the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), the Office of the SUG Director of Sports introduced Universal Livescore, a digital platform designed to provide real-time coverage of campus sporting activities. Beginning with the Alumni Inter-Faculty Games 2026, the platform allows users to follow fixtures, standings, top scorers and match summaries, offering a new way for students and supporters to stay connected with university sports.

At the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), the Office of the SUG Director of Sports announced FUTO Marathon 2.0, an upcoming fitness initiative intended to promote endurance, togetherness, student participation and healthy living. Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) also mobilised its students to participate, urging registered runners to collect their kits and encouraging others to register through the event's official website. With prizes on offer, the race provides an opportunity for students to represent their institution while participating in a wider athletics event.
