Plateau State Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Sports Development Ahead of NUGA UNIJOS 2025
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administrationâs unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment as Plateau State prepares to host the 27th Nigerian University Games (NUGA) at the University of Jos.
Governor Mutfwang made this known during his inspection visit on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to the J.T. Useni Stadium, one of the key venues for the upcoming Games. Expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far, the Governor pledged full government support to ensure a successful and memorable national sporting event.
The visit featured an on site inspection of sporting facilities within the Naraguta Campus, including the football pitch and other infrastructures set to host activities for the UNIJOS 2025. The Governor commended the organizers for their dedication and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state and the university in delivering a world class event.
We will do everything possible to make these Games a resounding success, Governor Mutfwang assured.
In a strong show of support, the Governor announced that the Plateau State Government would sponsor the stadium fence, tartan track, and pavilion renovation, while also strengthening logistics and security to ensure the safety and comfort of all athletes and visitors.
To enhance coordination and real time decision making during the Games, Governor Mutfwang further directed the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development to temporarily relocate his office to the Games Village throughout the event period.
With over 4,374 contingents expected, Plateau State stands ready to welcome Nigeria to the Home of Peace and Hospitality. Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed that sports remain a powerful instrument for peace, unity, and youth development, emphasizing his administrations commitment to leveraging partnerships with institutions like the University of Jos to harness the potential of young people through sports and education.
