THE 27TH NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY GAMES EMBRACES SUSTAINABILITY WITH SOLAR-POWERED TRICYCLES
The Nigerian University Games has once again proven to remain invested in development with its introduction of solar-powered tricycles popularly known as keke at the ongoing NUGA 2025, taking place in the University of Jos, Plateau state.
The tricycles were donated to the University by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) as an act of goodwill and contribution towards this years NUGA event.
Solar-powered tricycles have grown in popularity over the years, with one major goal to maintain sustainable transportation. NUGAs introduction of solar-powered tricycles at this years game shows the associations commitment to contributing to sustainability in Nigeria, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 9, 11, and 13, as well as the International University Sports Federation's (FISU) goal of tackling climate change by reducing carbon emissions.
These tricycles have been made available to offer free transportation for athletes, students, volunteers, and other attendants to and from any location on campus. Through this transportation service, participants and attendants of NUGA 2025 get to enjoy a seamless sightseeing experience of all attraction centres at the University of Jos campus.
The provision of solar powered tricycles at this years NUGA also speaks to the associations continuous efforts to uphold the welfare of athletes by ensuring that they remain well catered for while they focus on what matters the most, winning games.
