Ibadan to Host 8th FASU Afro-Varsity 3x3 Basketball Challenge
The Federation of African University Sports FASU has confirmed that the 8th AfroVarsity 3x3 Basketball Challenge will be held from 28th May to 1st June 2026 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Now in its eighth edition, the competition continues to bring together top university teams from across Africa, with the 2026 edition marking a significant opportunity for Nigeria to host a major continental university basketball event.
The tournament will serve as a qualification pathway to the FISU 3x3 World Cup, with the top two teams in both the mens and womens categories earning the chance to represent Africa on the global stage.
Participation is open to registered university students aged 17 to 25, competing on a university basis. As part of the competition requirements, all players and teams must have verified accounts on the FIBA 3x3 platform to obtain official ranking points. The accreditation portal opens on 15th March 2026, while institutions are expected to confirm participation by 15th May 2026.
With Nigeria set to host the event, the event is expected to strengthen collaboration among African universities, provide valuable exposure for student athletes, and further position university sports as a pathway for international competition.
