ESUT Hosts Inaugural VC Games Tournament 2026
The Enugu State University of Science and Technology ESUT hosted its VC Games Tournament 2026 Opening Ceremony at the ESUT Field on Monday, 9th February 2026. Organized by the Office of the Director of Sports in collaboration with the SUG Director of Games, the inter faculty tournament brought together students across various faculties to compete for top honours. Designed to promote unity, sportsmanship, and active student engagement, the VC Games set the stage for an exciting campus sports season, delivering energy, participation, and memorable moments.
Marking a significant milestone as the first-ever Vice Chancellorâs Games in ESUT, the tournament features a wide range of sporting activities including male and female football, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, and e-sports. Competitions are organized on a faculty basis across both male and female categories, encouraging broad participation across the university.
Currently, events such as football and badminton have reached the quarter final stage, with the tournament progressing in phases and the grand finale scheduled for April 2026. Winners will be awarded medals, while overall top-performing faculties will receive trophies. Additional recognitions, including best player and highest goal scorer, will also be presented.
The tournament was officially declared open by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius Okolie, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike Nwoha, alongside the University Librarian, Dr. Uzoamaka Ogwo, the Director of Sports, and other key university stakeholders, including the Studentsâ Director of Games, Mr. John Odoh Alaska.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director of Sports, Prof. Ngozi Rita Ani, described the tournament as a major step forward for sports development within the institution:
I am happy for the opportunity to witness the first VCs Games at ESUT. The tournament brings together male and female students across multiple sports including football, badminton, volleyball, e sports, table tennis, and tennis. It is organised on a faculty basis, and we are currently at the quarter final stage in football and badminton. Winners will be recognised with medals and trophies, alongside individual awards such as best player and highest goal scorer.
Beyond the VC Games, ESUT continues to maintain an active sports calendar, including participation in external competitions and inter university engagements. Notably, the Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports recently engaged students in athletics at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, while the universitys volleyball team also participated in a friendly match with Renaissance University.
With multiple activities ongoing and strong institutional support, the ESUT VC Games is set to become a key fixture in the universitys sporting calendar, fostering talent development, collaboration, and a vibrant campus sports culture.
