FUOYE Honours Student Athletes, Reinforces Commitment to Sports Development
The Federal University Oye Ekiti FUOYE has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development as the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, presided over a medal presentation ceremony in honour of student athletes who excelled at recent competitions, including the 27th NUGA Games and MTN Champs. The event recognised student athletes whose performances have contributed to the universitys growing presence in national and inter university sports.
Speaking at the ceremony, The Vice Chancellor commended the athletes for their resilience, discipline, and achievements, noting that their performances reflect strong potential within the universitys sports programme. He emphasised that with continued support and structured development, the athletes are well positioned to attain greater success and further elevate the institutionâs standing in university sports.
The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina, whose efforts laid the foundation for the progress being recorded. He reaffirmed his administrations commitment to consolidating these gains by strengthening the universitys sports framework, including plans to enhance funding, expand participation, and pursue strategic collaborations such as the establishment of a sports academy.
FUOYE athletes recorded notable achievements across multiple competitions. At the NUGA Games, Taofikat Sulaimon, alongside Oyindamola Oyinloye, Adebowole Adetomi, and Dare Favour, secured gold in the womens 4Ã100m relay, while additional medals were earned across athletics, boxing, judo, and taekwondo. The FUOYE Queens football team also emerged champions, securing gold after a strong performance in the final. At the MTN Champs Season 4 Grand Final, the university recorded further success with silver medals in discus, javelin, and the 1500m event, while the Dazzlers Queens added a bronze medal finish at the Kwara State First Lady Pre Season Championship.
The ceremony also featured commendations from the University Sports Committee and the Sports Unit, who highlighted the significance of continued institutional support in sustaining performance and athlete development. Overall, the recognition reinforces FUOYEs commitment to building a strong sports culture, positioning the university for continued growth, visibility, and competitive excellence within the Nigerian university sports ecosystem.
