Cairo Set to Welcome Africa for the 12th FASU Games
Preparations are in full swing as Cairo, Egypt, gets ready to host the 12th Federation of African University Sports FASU Games, scheduled to take place from 8 to 16 September 2026. The continental multi sport event is expected to bring together more than 50 universities from over 20 African countries, reaffirming its status as one of Africas premier university sporting competitions.
Hosting will be done by Cairo University, with accommodation support from The American University in Cairo and The British University in Cairo, the Games reflect a collaborative effort among Egypts higher education institutions to deliver a world class championship for student athletes, officials, and delegates across the continent.
The championship will feature 18 sporting disciplines, including athletics, basketball, football, futsal, volleyball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, tennis, squash, chess, judo, karate, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing, padel, and modern pentathlon. Beyond competition, the Games will provide opportunities for cultural exchange, collaboration, and the strengthening of university sports across Africa.
As part of preparations, the Local Organising Committee has unveiled the official Games mascot, Tut, inspired by the Living Image of Tutankhamun. Designed to embody youth, strength, leadership, and African heritage, the mascot reflects the spirit of the Games while celebrating Egypts rich cultural history.
Preparatory activities have also included virtual Heads of Delegation meetings and large scale simulation exercises through Egypts national university championships. These test events, involving thousands of student-athletes and dozens of universities, have enabled organisers to evaluate logistics, competition management, and operational readiness ahead of the continental event.
The 12th FASU Games will serve as more than a sporting competition. They represent a platform for excellence, unity, leadership, and the continued development of university sports across Africa, bringing together student athletes and institutions in the shared pursuit of sporting achievement and continental collaboration.
