Fan of the Week Spotlight, Student Leader and Athlete Nnanyereugo Pleasant
At the Nigerian University Games Association NUGA, we remain committed to recognising and celebrating students whose passion, leadership, and dedication continue to strengthen university sports across Nigeria.
For this spotlight, Nnanyereugo Pleasant of the University of Ibadan UI is recognised for her growing impact as both an athlete and student leader within the university sports community. A passionate track and field athlete, Pleasant has continued to demonstrate discipline, resilience, and a commitment to personal growth while actively contributing to sports development on campus.
Beyond her participation in athletics, Pleasant currently serves as the Sports Director of the Faculty of Law and Sports Director of Awo Hall at the University of Ibadan. Through these leadership roles, she has continued to encourage student participation in sports while promoting teamwork, excellence, and active engagement within the university community.
For Pleasant, athletics extends beyond competition. She describes track and field as a space where she finds focus, discipline, and the motivation to continually improve herself. Inspired by Jamaican sprint legend Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce, she believes that breaking records represents the true spirit of athletics by constantly challenging personal limits and creating new possibilities. She also looks up to Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan, whose achievements continue to inspire her pursuit of excellence.
Her journey reflects the values of dedication, commitment, resilience, and leadership that define student-athletes within Nigerian universities. Through both athletic participation and student leadership, Pleasant continues to demonstrate how sports can shape character, build confidence, and create opportunities for personal and professional development.
