Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Invites Universities to Maiden 2026 University Taekwondo Championship
The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation NTF has announced the maiden edition of the 2026 University Taekwondo Championship, inviting universities across Nigeria to participate in a competition aimed at strengthening university taekwondo and expanding opportunities for student athletes.
Scheduled to hold from 20 to 22 October 2026 at Package B, MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the championship will bring together university athletes from across the country to compete while promoting talent identification, athlete development, and increased participation in the sport.
According to the Federation, team arrival is scheduled for 20 October, while competitions will take place on 21 and 22 October 2026.
The championship will also serve as a preparatory event for the Korean Ambassadors Cup, scheduled for 23 to 25 October 2026, as well as the National Sports Festival, providing student athletes with valuable competitive exposure ahead of both events.
As part of efforts to encourage participation, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation will provide two nights of accommodation, covering 21 and 22 October 2026, for up to five athletes from each registered university.
Participating universities are expected to complete registration at a fee of 30,000 per institution and are encouraged to sponsor their athletes and coaches to take part in what is expected to be a significant milestone for university taekwondo in Nigeria.
The introduction of the University Taekwondo Championship reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the pathway for student athletes by providing additional opportunities for competition, talent discovery, and athlete development within the Nigerian university sports system.
As preparations continue, universities are encouraged to register and support their teams, contributing to the growth and development of taekwondo across higher education institutions in Nigeria.
