CVCNU and the University of Ilorin to Host 37th Annual General Conference and Assembly
The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities CVCNU, in collaboration with the University of Ilorin, is set to host its 37th Annual General Conference and Assembly from 17 to 21 August 2026 at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The annual gathering will bring together Vice Chancellors, policymakers, academics, researchers, development partners, and stakeholders from Nigerias higher education sector to deliberate on issues shaping the future of university education under the theme, Building Resilient Universities for Nigeria.
The conference will be hosted by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, alongside the Secretary General of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Professor Andrew Haruna.
A major highlight of the conference will be the keynote address to be delivered by Professor Emeritus Ishaq O. Oloyede, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB.
Participants will also engage in a series of plenary sessions featuring distinguished leaders in Nigeria's higher education sector. Discussions will explore key issues relating to university governance, institutional resilience, innovation, academic excellence, digital transformation, mental health, and strategic leadership.
Among the featured speakers is the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, who will speak on Governance, Autonomy and Financial Sustainability, focusing on new approaches to strengthening Nigerias university system.
Former Secretary General of the CVCNU and former Secretary General of the Committee of Pro Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Professor Michael Faborode, will lead discussions on Balancing Autonomy with Accountability, with emphasis on effective university governance and leadership.
The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Saidu Ahmad, will chair the session on The AI Ready Nigerian University, examining innovation, digital transformation, and strategic partnerships within higher education.
The conference will also feature presentations by Professor Andrew Haruna on Navigating Complex Relationships within the Higher Education Landscape, Professor Tanko Ishaya, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos and Chairman of the CVC Federal Universities Committee, on Human Capital and Academic Excellence; and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University and Chairperson of the CVC State Universities Committee, on Mental Health and Well being in Nigerian Universities.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening governance, promoting innovation, and advancing sustainable development across Nigeria's university system.
