NUGA Council to Convene in Calabar Ahead of 28th NUGA Games

The Nigerian University Games Association NUGA will convene its Council Meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, from 1 to 4 September 2026, as preparations gather pace for the 28th NUGA Games, scheduled to hold at the University of Calabar from 14 to 24 November 2026.

The meeting will bring together members of the NUGA Council, including Chairmen and Directors of Sports from affiliated universities, alongside representatives of key stakeholders, to review preparations and deliberate on matters critical to the successful delivery of the Games.

With just three months until the opening ceremony, the Council Meeting marks a significant phase in NUGAs preparations. Discussions will focus on the operational readiness of the Games, updates from the host institution, technical planning, accreditation, competition schedules, logistics, and other key areas necessary to ensure a successful championship.

The 28th NUGA Games are expected to attract 95 universities and approximately 10,000 athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, administrators, and spectators who will compete across 24 sporting events, making it Nigerias largest university multi sport festival.

As host, the University of Calabar continues preparations across its sporting facilities and operational structures ahead of welcoming universities from across the country. The Council Meeting will provide an opportunity to review progress and align final preparations as the countdown to the Games continues.

The meeting is expected to conclude with key resolutions that will guide the next phase of preparations, reinforcing NUGAs commitment to delivering a well coordinated and memorable edition of the Games in November.
